Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at the Nalenggele River, Qinghai, and the reference section is at Hashituo Mt., Golmud, Qinghai. It was named by the compiling group for Regional Stratigraphical Scale of Qinghai in 1980.


Lithology and Thickness

Sandstone and Limestone. Lower part is composed of varicolored conglomerate, clastic sandstone, fine-grained sandstone and siltstone. Upper part is gray moderately thick-bedded micritic and sparry bioclastic limestones intercalated with crystal-powder limestone. Exposed thickness is 99 m.

Lower contact

Unconformable contact with the underlying stratum

Disconformable contact with the overlying Diaosu Fm

Regional extent

Distributed in such areas as Hashituo (Diaosu) of the East Kunlun Mts., Nalenggele River, Dongdaganggou, Qimantag and Yunjusayi

Fossils

Upper part contains abundant Corals Arachnolasma sinense, Dibunophyllum tingi, D. bipartitum, Yuanophyllum kansuense, Koninckophyllum stellatum, Lithostrotionella lavaformis and Huishuiphyllum regulare; Brachiopods Gigantoproductus giganteus, G. edelburgensis, Striatifera striata and Echinoconchus elegans; Fusulinid Eostaffella anhuiana; Foraminifers Cribrostomum eximium and Eodothyranopsis crassus as well as bivalves, gastropods, plants, etc.

Depositional setting

It is interpreted as a neritic carbonate−clastic facies; and from west to east, clastic rocks are increasing, while the limestones are decreasing and thickness also increasing.
